CNC Sliding Head

A CNC sliding head is a machine used to create specialized tools and devices for certain industries. These industries drive the world and require a precision with accuracy in the millimeters. Precision allows the devices and tools used by professionals and everyday consumers to do more than function, but to exceed performance capabilities.

CNC sliding heads use machine milling technology to create small turned parts (screws, pins, bars, etc.). These parts can be both metal (titanium, steel, brass, aluminum) or plastic. The machines build, thread and tap the parts, reducing assembly line workflow by several steps.

Using Computer Numeric Controls, a CNC sliding head reduces lead times and overall production costs. With a reduction in both, manufacturers can focus on making better products for wide variety of industries, across the world, that utilize CNC sliding heads.

The industries that use the CNC sliding heads are increasing each year. CNC sliding heads are sometimes associated with automatic lathes. These machines can produce very small metal tools and accessories. Using a variety of metals, a CNC sliding head can craft screws and pins less than a half-inch round.

Long associated with the industry of small turned parts, CNC sliding heads have expanded to creating parts for other industries in a variety of professional and consumer sectors. Medical supply manufacturers have used the machines to craft specially-designed tools for medical professionals, including doctors, surgeons and dentists.
The small tools can be used for operational purposes in hard to reach portions of the body (spine, nerves) where a fraction of inch makes the difference between healing or a liability lawsuit.

One of the core principles in a CNC sliding head is precision. The final products need to carry a pinpoint precision so that precision can be carried to the specific consumer industry. In addition to reducing costs and work time, the machine produces outstanding repeatability between batches. Repeatability guarantees that product after product, in the same batch, will carry nearly identical micro-sized specifications. The accuracy and reliability creates precision that helps industries trust in the results of CNC sliding heads.

More recent CNC sliding heads have been touted as reducing workflow cycle times by 20 to 30 times and sometimes even more, allowing manufacturers to produce more products for an ever expanding customer base. The shortened times create more durable tools that last longer.

For the above reasons, CNC sliding heads are essential to the industries grouped under the name precision engineering. Whether an astronaut in space or an engineer on the ground, the tools created by a CNC sliding head drive the aerospace industries. The same goes for other manufacturing industries such as automobile, offshore drilling, electrical components and wiring, semiconductors and the worlds premier precision industry, the military.

All of the above factors mean manufacturers using CNC sliding heads can make specialized batches of just a handful or large batches of tens of thousands. Coupled with Computer-aided technologies, modern CNC sliding heads produce results that far outperform previous models and give engineers the best
