Introduction

As high definition becomes more popular and more people are expecting the high quality picture, is now the time to purchase a high definition video camera to capture your family moments, or is it worth waiting for the next technology cameras, such as 3D?

High Definition Cameras

High Definition (HD), is a far superior picture quality compared to VHS, DVD, or any other previous video format. The most common video camera for person use was a Hi8 type system, but many people made the upgrade to the higher quality Mini DV cameras. Smaller, better picture quality, and a considerable outlay, many people only purchased a Mini DV camera a few years ago, so upgrading their video camera again could seem like a waste of money.

If you did purchase a Mini DV camera, insured it had all the features and requirements you wanted - and are happy with the DVD quality footage, is there any reason to upgrade your camera so soon?

Quite simply, the answer is probably yes. The most important part, and the real reason of a video camera, is to capture important events. Maybe not news worthy events - but events that are important to you and your family - for that reason, you want the highest quality video you can get, and now, that is High Definition. With a resolution double that of your Mini DVD camera, as TVs get bigger - and in years to come, you will be glad you purchased a good quality HD camera.

It would be a shame in many years, when the children are grown up, to not have video of quality high enough to really show to your family.
Most HD cameras also use memory cards, so transferring video, editing, and adding effects is much easier. You can also get a decent camera now for a fair price.
