Introduction

As you purchase more and more gadgets, the number of remote controls around the home increases. Many homes have 4 remotes just for their living room TV setup. For example - TV remote, Satellite or cable control, DVD/Bluray clicker, and an amplifier remote. This often means juggling between all 4 just to watch a movie - and in some homes, it has become so complicated, only the kids can put on a DVD, leaving baffled parents annoyed and looking for a solution. Is the universal all-in-one remote the answer?

The Advantages

The major advantage of an all-in-one, is you immediately have reduced the number of remotes down to a single device. This means you can stop picking up others to change to dvds/music/sat/etc. You can put your others in a drawer, and stop them getting damaged or lost. It also cuts down on the number of batteries you need.

The Disadvantages

Unfortunately, replacing so many devices with a single remote - means it can complicated to use. More buttons to cover more equipment can be confusing. You also need to purchase a universal clicker that can operate the number of devices you have - typically 4 as mentioned. This can be expensive, and if the number is higher - the price can soon go up. The layouts of these universal remotes can also be confusing. You have to make sure that you have well known, branded technology - as unknown makes be incompatible with the remote, although you could purchases a learning remote - as this will allow any make to work.

Conclusion

Although an all-in-one clicker can seem like a good idea, it is probably best to just learn how to use all your original controls. This will give you greater power over your devices - as no universal remote could cover every feature of all your devices.
