Silhouette, at Freedom's Door, a Poem about Spirituality and Addiction Recovery

Silhouette is a spiritual poem about the road of life. A person understands to look to the Lord, who is light, truth, incorruption and righteousness; and with these qualities the spiritual road is paved. This spiritual road is not always easy, but by following Jesus is the way that leads to eternal life. It is an exciting and sometimes a painful one at times, often, the spiritual road is not clear, especially when the desired result is unity, not fragmentation and discord, but, it is a walk that one must take and this road is the path to fulfilling a person's destiny and finding oneself. This road is contextual and always opens to wherever the beautiful mystery of the Soul of Life may reveal herself. This spiritual road is open for everyone! "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path." (Psalm 119:105)

Silhouette

I've been just a shadow on this road of life.
A dark and shaded silhouette, full of loneliness and strife.
Not knowing where I'm going, not caring where I've been.
Not quite living, not quite dead, stuck somewhere in between.

Wandering 'round' aimlessly, just a lost and empty man.
Reaching out for anything, some hope to hold my hand.
Heaven not within my reach, but Hell behind the door.
Telling me to turn the knob, Come on, I know you want some more.

I knew there was a better way, to chase my wayward dreams.
But the devil kept on telling me, they're out of reach it seems.
He pushed them far away from me; he filled me full of dread.
He kicked my feet from under me, till I wished I was dead.

But then I just stopped listening, I turned away and ran.
Cause I wanted to stop living, as a shadow of a man.
A broken, darkened silhouette, nobody ever knew.
Then I felt a touch inside of me, and something in me grew.

I'm not quite sure just what it is, for this I cannot see.
I only know that it is right, this thing that grows in me.
So I'll carry on up this road of life, I know I'm not done yet.
Cause now I see, there is finally, some color in this silhouette.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Finding Jesus is a lot easier than a person thinks. Jesus does not play hide-and-seek. Jesus says, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock.” (Rev. 3:20). One can find Him at the door of ones heart.

Finding Jesus is the answer and “God hates the sin but loves the sinner. The price of our sin was paid by Jesus and now we are judged by our works!” (rev 20:12) Not every road to finding Jesus is going to be smooth one.

For one thing, finding Jesus is the greatest discovery that a person will ever make, and may even stumble upon him without really looking for him at Freedom’s Door. Finding Jesus is just the beginning of a person’s journey in life; not the end.

Freedom's Door is in Kelowna offering Spiritual Hope, Healing and Wholeness for Men with Addictions.

Freedom's Door is a non-profit registered society that uses the Twelve Step program and Christian principles to rehabilitate men struggling with alcoholism and drug addiction in the Okanagan Valley and Kelowna, BC area. Freedom's Door, a doorway to spiritual freedom from drug and alcohol abuse.
