If you are looking for a natural remedies for back pain there are many alternatives for you to choose from. Back pain is the second most common neurological disorder in the United States according to the National Institutes of Health. Only a headache is more common, so many people who suffer from back pain are increasingly looking for natural remedies to help relieve chronic or acute back pain.

Depending on the level of pain you are experiencing, not all natural remedies work for everyone. It is important to keep an open mind and to believe that your back pain can be treated and the pain can be relieved without using strong pain killers that can be highly addictive.

There are many different types of natural remedies for back pain. Natural remedies may be defined as a holistic alternative to traditional medicine. Natural remedies have been practiced in all societies for thousands of years, by focusing on the physical, emotional, cultural, psychological and even environmental issues that affect the patients health.

The number one natural remedy for relieving back pain is acupuncture. According to traditional Chinese medicine, our bodies contain energy pathways all through out our muscles and pain results from these energy pathways becoming blocked. When acupuncture needles are inserted into the energy pathway, this releases natural pain-relieving opioids which then send signals to the nervous system that releases neurochemicals and hormones. People swear by acupuncture and because so many are finding long term relief using the procedure, some insurance companies even will now pay for it.

Chronic muscle pain can be a symptom of vitamin D deficiency. A recent study performed at the University of Minnesota showed that in 150 people with chronic musculoskeletal pain, 93% suffered from a vitamin D deficiency. Research concluded that all people with persistent, non-specific musculoskeletal pain should be screened for vitamin D deficiency.

The use of herbs is fast becoming another alternative of natural remedies that is used to improve back pain. A popular herb called boswellia is known for its anti-inflammatory benefits as it has been proven to reduce the stiffness in your muscles as it increases the blood supply to affected areas.

Ginger is another useful herb that can fight back pain as its natural ingredients inhibits pain-causing hormones to be released in the body. One of the greatest benefits of using ginger as a natural remedy to fighting lower back pain is that you can take it on a long-term basis. Taking natural herbs for pain as opposed to man-made medication has been gaining popularity in the past ten years as the awareness of addiction to pain killers is more prevalent in todays society.

Capsaicin cream is a natural remedy that is inexpensive and has been found to have an analgesic effect. Eat a chili pepper and as you feel the burning in your mouth, you will understand exactly what capsaicin does. Capsaicin is the active ingredient in chili peppers!
