Since many years; multiple belt system is being used. The traits of multiple belts and pulley system includes an algorithm that develops the linear equations of motion for multiple belt systems. Equations of motion are formulated by the computer program developed by this algorithm. This could be thought of as groups of simple belt systems. It is smooth, resistant to temperature and corrosion, easy to clean and repair and hence is very useful. Also, the serpentine belt is much compact and its replacement is simpler than the older system of belts. Reduction of number of points of failure is done in a machine. A serpentine belt takes the place of many individual belts that were employed in earlier car models and in components that are still used today like in radio and transistor.
All these belts function in the similar fashion. They take power from the engine when it is operating to power other devices in the car. These belts generate motion, either of a rotating part like fan or of a generator like power steering pump. The efficiency of the vehicle is improved. The best part about the serpentine belts is that it can be fitted to the perfect tension and force without taking unnecessary care about the stretching duration. The stretching may have lessened the efficiency of the belt or may have made it tough for the technician to handle. The performance can be increased by suitably adjusting the tension and other moments . Moreover, the life of the belt will be more compared to a multiple belt system.

Many of us like to do our own work by ourselves. Many people, either simply because for the love of it or just because they are not economically well, prefer to change these belts of their vehicles on their own instead of going to the near auto mechanic or service station and incur some expenses. These serpentine belts are easily replaceable manually and hence is more useful for such people. The simple reason is that the different engine part of belts doesn't have to be taken off. Removal and replacement of a single thing is needed to be done. But, as one more added advantage, these serpentine belts are of an excellent durability and do not break very often. For vehicle drivers, the replacement of these belts is not a big issue. Once in a blue moon only, they have to accomplish this task if they take proper and due care of their vehicle as well as its mechanical parts.
But, like everything, these serpentine belts also have some negative property about them. When these belts do break up, the vehicle does not have any power supplied to the engine parts that are driven by the belt. This could be some problem for the driver and require labor. But these belts usually wear away gradually and therefore indicating about its replacement. A humming sound or immense noise indicates the replacement. Therefore, the car owner could easily realize the requirement for the belt to be replaced.
