In this article we cover attraction marketing principles and their application to social networks such as MySpace and FaceBook. Although the tactic used isn’t the usual attraction marketing approach of making a compelling offer in order to capture email, building a list, etc., the principles are similar. On social networks, you personally become the "bait" vs. a free report, ebook, or training offer. In order to use this strategy, you first need to create personal (not business-oriented) profiles on FaceBook, MySpace, etc. Then determine what approach you want to use.
On the social netwoks, you'll find three types of profiles:
* Total commercial for one’s business – Most consider this type of page as sales-oriented and expect to be "pitched." We don't recommend this type page, which may result in spam complaints when connecting with people.
* Part business, part personal – People will communicate with reservations, expecting the page owner to hit them with their sales pitch. This is only recommended if you are already earn 6-figures or better.
* All about you, no business – People are magnetically attracted to this type of page. We recommend this approach.
Personal branding can be accomplished in one of three ways:
* A person wildly successful and/or happy – We recommend this as the best approach even if you're just starting out. One way to leverage this method is to post motivational messages on your profile at least a couple times daily. Reread or skim books or consult quotes directories for those that have most meaning to you. Share these things with your network.
* As an expert – This can be an effective approach, but requires that you have already established sufficient credenials and/or expertise.
* As a successful network marketing professional – Limits you to only those already in the network marketing industry.
Once your profile is ready and/or adjusted for your particular plan, then you can start linking with old friends and making new friends. Use the memory jogger from your network marketing company to remind youself of those you need to connect with. If you don't have access to network marketing training materials, refer to the phone book or Yellow Book sections to help you think of people to invite to your social networks.
Most network marketing company trainers will advise a completely different strategy for social networks which is more about branding the company. That is, especially if they’re advising you to be aggressive in approaching your social media friends with an “elevator” speech. This is what all the amateurs are doing, and it won’t work. Rather you need to question people conversationally to determine a need in their life for your products and/or business opportunity. It's most effective to never approach anyone without first determining their need. If done correctly, your friends will actually ask you about it first, believing that it was their idea for you to share information with them about your business and/or products.
