We may be confused when we plan to buy a property. You may have the dilemma whether to do it on your own or hire a real estate agent. You will be asking yourself this question which is common. Both methods can work and both have their own positive aspects.
However, if the necessity to use the services of an agent arises, there will be things to consider. It should not matter if this person is from a big firm or working independently. As long as he is experienced and works with professional ethics and responsibility, then he will be fit for the job.

An agent is not someone who tells you what to do. He should be someone who knows how to listen to you and understand your needs. Don't be fooled by those ads that may promise you impossible things.
There are two kinds of people who can help you when buying a house. One is the Realtor. This person is a member of the National Association of Realtor which implements certain standards, including a code of ethics that is supposed to guide real estate practitioners. The second one is the Real Estate Agent. There is a similarity between the two and that is their license. Both of them are legally capable of helping you buy a property.
Do not envy your friend or colleague who says he's bought the house of his family's dreams. Instead, ask him how he found such house and who his agent was. This is what you call asking for a referral. The same agent your agent hired can also find you your own dream house.
The real estate industry is a network of professionals. This means that all the practitioners know someone in the industry. So if you hired a professional who can't cater to your needs, ask for a referral. He may know someone who can help you.
But if you are new in an area and you don't know anybody yet, try searching online. Companies can either market themselves as real estate professionals or they can advertise the properties that they are selling.
Trusting these people who have great experience with real estate properties is something you have to do. Of course, you would not trust somebody whose character or track record is questionable. If you have asked for a friend's referral, trusting your friend would mean he would not refer you to someone who cannot do you good service.
If you want to find that dream house, you need to find the right person who can help you get that house that you have been dreaming of. The house and the real estate agent or Realtor that you hired will be a great investment for you and your family of course.
