Once I first arrived in LA I knew I had to meet individuals, I needed to create friends. This was crucial. No friends or relatives within the business of show, so I had to create them.

I made it my mission to attend as many functions/events as possible. I recall occasions that concerned 3 to five functions in an evening - and different evenings when the invitations got "lost in the mail."

Some events were fee based mostly, others were not. I had to search out artistic ways that to induce invited and purchase the fees. I'd pop in, shake some hands, and kiss some babies (wink) then move on to the next soiree. I met a ton of interesting folks each with their own dream. Some became pricey friends and others business partners.

Fifteen years later, I now have an enormous rolodex of established professionals I will call upon.
I had some basic principles as I entered every perform/event. Here they are:

1. Stand out. Be remarked about. Have an identity. I have been known as a lot of things in my life, believe me. Boring is not one amongst them.
2. Have Fun! This is not war, it's a party. I'm not on a mission to do business, I'm on a mission to fulfill people and build friends.
3. Be resourceful and helpful to others. Connect people. Recently, I was at a cocktail party and met a pharmaceutical rep hunting for a replacement gig. It therefore happens that I know a key govt at major pharmaceutical company and offered to introduce his resume.
4. Don't sell. This is often not the place to sell any of your goods. It's simply an chance to form friends. Ideally, nice friends. As these new friends get to grasp you they may not need or wish what you've got, but they'll understand someone who does. Their friends could become your business contacts. Some of my best business relationships are the result of an introduction and recommendation. I sold a show to FOX several moons ago because a lover I met (an accountant) introduced me to his cousin, a massive deal Producer.

Here is what is actually wonderful though. fifteen years later I can accomplish the identical goals of making new friends by utilizing social media. I have met a number of my dearest friends online. Three years ago I met a fan who impressed me to run a marathon. He lives in Seattle. Last year, while my schedule prohibited my attendance, I set aside 2 tickets for him to attend the screening of my film at the Seattle Film Festival.

Purpose is that you are doing not need to live in Los Angeles as a screenwriter to attend parties and make friends that are within the entertainment business. You'll do it using Social Media. Bear in mind that when you meet somebody at a celebration they may have in excess of 50 contacts that they will reach out to. In Social Media, there are some folks that have thousands upon thousands of contacts they can connect you to. Some of those contacts could very otherwise be the tastemakers you seek.

Social media has simply created networking virtual. But, same principles apply. The sweetness of the net is you'll be able to be remarkable, resourceful, and fun by using the power of the internet. There is so much material out there. You'll be the one that captures it and introduces it to the community. You'll be sassy, you can be your alter ego. You'll be able to be snug because your at home, a occasional look, at work, wherever.

Thus I build of these friends online Marvin, now what? How do I get my scripts within the hands of the tastemakers? Drum roll please...
Blog!

Suppose of your blog as your home. This should represent you. This is often your voice. Here you tell the globe all about you and the way fabulous you really are! Here you'll be able to post your goals, action plans, passions, etc..

Invite individuals you meet on Social Media sites over for hors d'oeuvres and cocktails virtual vogue to your home. Provide folks content, not simply your screenplays, content. There's therefore much cool and attention-grabbing stuff online you'll give to individuals for free. Or maybe you have got a talent set that you have got mastered. Build a video and teach folks how to try and do it and post it or maybe you write a the way to E-book.

Maybe, simply maybe you create a video pitching your screenplay and you post that. Perhaps it is a video journal of your screenplay's journey of the trail it takes to the large screen. Perhaps you post clips of a table reading. Maybe... it's endless what you'll do.
Point is, here you'll be able to be the host of your personal party.

As people begin to go to your personal home a lot of often, friendships develop. Friends facilitate different friends. They support every other. They encourage each other. They introduce every alternative to the people they recognize, and that they introduce you to the people they apprehend, and they... you get it.

It is a little, tiny world. Social media makes it even smaller.

In conclusion, let me remind you that this can be simply a further tool not the sole tool, but a tool.
Here are some examples of websites you can be part of (many of them supply screenwriting teams): Facebook.com, Twitter.com, Myspace.com, Linkedin.com, etc.

Finally, to set-up a straightforward, straightforward to use blog strive Wordpress.com
