The most frequent travelers tend to be people who need to go overseas for business. This is an unfortunate reality, as these people also tend to be the ones most in need of immediate Internet access, something difficult to obtain on the go. So what do you do? Electronic manufacturers and Internet providers have been working hard over the past few years to remedy this situation and make overseas business even easier. Some of the options they have come up with are even reasonably affordable.
A popular option for mobile broadband is Internet air card rental. An air card is a device that your phone company can provide you with to gain access to the Internet even without hotspots or home wireless networks. It will either plug into your laptop’s USB outlet or card slot; some may even be internally installed in a computer, smart phone or other hand held device. These can cost $50-$150, depending on the quality of the device and who the service provider is. Then there is a monthly charge for Internet usage, which usually comes with a 5GB data transfer limit.

Both national and international broadband card rental is possible. These rentals are great for business travelers, as well as families on brief vacations. Their wireless networks cover significant areas of North America, Asia and Europe. Because they gain their Internet access through the local phone lines, the quality of your connection will vary with the quality of your cell phone reception. So, more rural areas or those at higher altitudes may be less reliable than others.
If you travel for longer periods of time, especially to the same location, you may consider looking into an Internet service plan with a provider in that area. This will ensure that you get more efficient and more affordable access. Of course, in some areas the local service provider may be more expensive than the one you have back home. UK broadband rental is probably going to be cheaper than, say, that of South Africa. It is in your best interest to research this in order to make the most informed decision.
