In the digital age, access to the Internet is required at all times and for a variety of purposes, such as paying bills, sending e-mails, or participating in online meetings. Laptop and Smartphone users may be surprised to find that their service plan does not cover Internet usage in foreign countries. They will likely find out when they receive a phone bill informing them that they have been charged $100 for downloading a five megabyte file (figure based on AT&T’s rate of $0.0195 per kilobyte). This need not be the case, however.
Consumers with a need for international wireless services can buy Internet service packages for overseas use. Rather than paying obscene international roaming prices or having to drop what you are doing to seek out an Internet café, you can simply select an Internet package based on the number of days you plan to be overseas. If you are only going to be gone for a week, you would probably want a five or ten day plan, whereas if you will be overseas for a month, a thirty day package would be more suitable.

Currently, many an international broadband company can be found offering wireless Internet access for users in foreign countries. Some make use of devices with multiple connection ports, so that several Internet-capable devices can be hooked up to one machine. If you have a laptop, Smartphone, iPad, or iPod, they can all be plugged in at once, receiving wireless access from one source.
Besides being convenient, this will save you the headache of having to figure out the roaming charges on each gadget’s Internet features. You simply order the WiFi device off the Internet, and when it arrives, plug it in and turn it on – there is no installation process. After you are done with the device, just send it back in the pre-paid envelope included with it. With such a simple process for affordable international broadband access, getting stuck with an astronomical bill for roaming is not only unnecessary, but inexcusable.
