If you are physically fit, but the occasional cigarette or just a bit of extra weight is making it harder to breath when doing a slightly more strenuous activity than walking - some of these tips could help.

You can improve the capability of your lungs by any of the following.

*** If you smoke - quit. This is obvious - smoking causes cancer, and makes breathing harder. The best way to improve your lungs is to quit smoking.

*** If you are overweight - lose weight. Again, everyone knows this, your breathing will be much harder if you are carrying around more weight with you each day that your body does not need.

*** Aerobic Exercise - jogging, walking, running. These activities will all help to improve your ability to breathe easy. Any exercise will be an improvement over none.

*** Strengthen your lungs with a balloon. Blow up a balloon; let it down, do it again. Do it at odd times during the day. The extra resistance for your lungs will help strengthen them. Your work colleges may think you're crazy, but explain it, and you may find others wanting a go.

*** Insure you are filling your lungs. It should feel like you are breathing from your stomach. If you are only using the tops of your lungs - shallow breathing, it means you are only taking in half the amount of air each breath then you physically could be.

If your breathing is very strained - more than you would think possible for the amount of activity you are doing, it could be the sign you need to see a doctor or medical person.

Improving the strength of your lungs could really help you live your life easier - and achieve tasks that many take for granted without having to strain or be short of breath. The tips in this article are only the tip of the iceberg to ways that you could improve your lungs - it would be worth talking to a medical doctor about ways to expand and improve your breathing.
