I am a producer who has enjoyed both sides of the writing seminar experience. As a piece fellow years ago, I attended several numerous seminars. Then, as a story analyst for a serious production company, I developed my very own system for understanding and applying story structure that I now teach during a seminar of my own. There are 3 things I explain to people who question or resist "learning how to put in writing" through professional seminars.
First, writers often (mistakenly) interchange "story" and "structure." These are two separate elements of the writing process. Story is the creative experience that only you'll uniquely categorical from your vision. Structure is the inspiration for that story, and the foundations of structure are accepted for thousands of years. The easiest method to grasp the distinction is to consider a dinner party. What you cook is entirely up to you (story). However you want to serve your guests the appetizer initial, then the entr?e, then the dessert, in that order, and people dishes have to complement every other (structure). If not, regardless of how great the food is, your guests are visiting think you have got no idea how to make dinner. And they won't return back to dine with you again. Writing seminars tend to focus on teaching structure, NOT story, so that artistic genius features a probability of being understood and enjoyed by patrons and audiences who innately expect a bound foundation to a script. And story instincts can be honed and expanded with professional steering, as well.

Second, virtually all professions have rules for writing. Simply as lawyers must learn proper structure and format for legal briefs and programmers do the identical with software code, screenwriters should learn and apply rules of structure and format to screenplays. Please compare those demands on some time and wallet to what dentists, accountants, attorneys and alternative professionals should do before they will earn a skilled paycheck. If attending a well-revered course for a few hundred usd helps consumers believe in you, do whatever helps you crack those barriers to entry! Last, try very laborious to name any business where coaching destroys natural talent instead of enhances or develops it. Still a skeptic? Obtain a number of writing books and take some categories simply to prove everyone wrong. What I know you will discover, instead, is that coaching can take what is smart and makes it great.
