Customers more or less experience the same things when they buy online or when they buy from a traditional store. They click on a thing if they like something online instead of picking it up like buying from a traditional store. If they don't like it, instead of putting it back, they just hit the back button.
This is something that businesses should avoid. Here are a few tips for creating a web design and content that would be effective so that you would not be part of those clickaway businesses online.

a. Websites that have good content are favored by web users rather than those that have great designs but have poor content. This is why these websites don't have a lot of hits.
b. Web users don't read the contents of a page but just scan through them. They would just search for fixed points that would guide them through the page.
c. Web users are intolerant and are looking for quick satisfaction. If a web page doesn't meet the expectations of a user, then the designer botched his job. The users don't need to use heavy mental processing to navigate through the site.
d. Web users don't look for the fastest way to find the needed information. They also don't check a web page in a linear fashion or following a sequence. If they find one that looks rational, then there's a great possibility that the user will click it.
e. Web users go for intuition instead of read all the information on a webpage. The users really don't care. If they find something that works, they stick to it. They don't have to understand it.
f. What these users want is to have control in their hands and those web pages that have pop ups are always out. If they hit the back button, they want to be able to be directed back to the site that they previously were before and this should not be opened in another browser or another window perhaps. Back button should work.
g. These users want to have a web page that is easy to understand and user friendly. They don't want sites that they need to figure out in order to navigate around it. If your site is hard to navigate then they would just close it and move on to the next one. They don't want to think deeply when they navigate a site.
h. If you are planning to offer your website visitors a type of product or service, make sure that you don't require them to fill out long forms for them to be able to create an account. Give them a free hand rather than forcing them to give out personal information about them.
