There are so many Down syndrome help groups that offer support and assistance for children who have this disorder. It is not easy to have children who have trisomy 21 because you must always be there to guide and support all the needs of the child. Usually, if the parents already knew that their child has trisomy 21, they will feel very guilty and sad. Usually they will be disappointed to themselves because they think that they are not good parents. This will cause depression and anxiety for them, which will become a barrier for them to take care of their child.
The support group also offers parental counseling on how a parent can take care of their child. Keep in mind that the parents are the most valuable persons that the child will depend for the rest of his or her life. There are some parents who are afraid to take care of their child because they think that they might worsen the condition of the child. The truth is, the parents should accept the situation of the child and think of some ways on how to care for the child.

Thinking positive must be done for the parent to be able to love and care for their child. Coping is not easy if acceptance is not yet achieved. There are some institutions and rehabilitation centers which offer Down syndrome help that provide education and learning for the children who have trisomy 21. We all know that if a child has trisomy 21, his or her physical and cognitive thinking is impaired that is why it was difficult for them to learn basic education.
Education is very important whether you have a high or low IQ. This means that a child with trisomy 21 also needs education. To be able to do that, patience is really needed to help the child learn and at least gain basic knowledge. Even if they are cognitively challenged, it does not mean that they need a very special treatment. They must also be treated like a normal child.
Often times, children with trisomy 21 are discriminated by other people. Keep in mind that they are also human beings that must be respected. They have a physical difference but their feelings are the same with a normal person. The support group is available everywhere, and with a helping and caring hands; they would like to extend all things that they can share to support the children with this disorder. Trisomy 21 cannot be prevented but there is a guarantee that discrimination will be prevented. Down syndrome help was created to aid, assist and guide the parents on proper handling of the child and for the children to learn and to be treated normally.
