The Amway Corporation was established in 1959 by long time friends Rich DeVos and Jay Van Andel as a company that would offer the independant business owner (IBO) the opportunity to create an income with a combination of retail profits and sponsoring other IBO. The company was founded on the priciples of Freedom, Family,Hope,& Reward which is engraved at the headquarters in Ada, Michigan. Amway is one of the largest privately owned companies in the United States. With the 2009 sales total of $8.4 billion which was a 2.3% increase from 2008. A business growing dispite the worsening economy.
The Amway Corporation started with a cleaning product by the name of Frisk which is still a product of the company renamed LOC or liquid organic cleaner. The Amway corp. still has their line of detergents and cleaning products but has expanded their product list to over 480 different products. Some of their products are manufactured in the US in their Ada, Michigan plant. Manufacturing also takes place in China,India,and the Nutrilite organic farms.

The Amway corporation went international in 1971 and is now a world wide company in 58 countries with all products distributed by independant business owners. This enables more than 3 million people over the world to own their own business. The company depends on their IBO's word of mouth to market their products, they do not advertize and you will not find their products in any retail stores. With this combination of direct selling and multi-level marketing strategy their IBO's earn a 30% profit on the products that they retail and they also sponsor other IBO's who they train to also retail products and then in turn they sponsor more IBO's to create a large business of their own. They make an additional profit on the sales of every IBO that is sponsored into their group also called downline.
Amway measures your success by how many products sold by the IBO and their downline. So each person sponsored increases their personal sales and elevates their position in the company thus increasing the amount of money they can make. At this time less than 10% of the company sales are in the U.S. and less than 10% of what they sell is soap. Leaving the market wide open for you.
