GF-5 standard is coming out and Orange Line Oil is already compliant and will be further complying with future updates.

On December 22, 2009, the International Lubricant Standardization and Approval Committee (ILSAC) adopted a new engine oil performance standard. GF-5, the new standard, will officially replace its predecessor (GF-4) on October 1, 2010.

The benefits of GF-5 are numerous. In fact, only a handful of performance aspects have not been improved from GF-4 to GF-5, while about as many new features have been introduced into the formula. The new standard promises significant performance levels, including oil change recommendations starting at 8,000 miles rather than the quickly fading traditional 3,000 mile mark. Simply put, better oil lasts longer, which explains the 8,000 mile recommendation. Unfortunately, it also explains the higher prices.

Consumers can expect to pay two to three times more for some GF-5 compliant motor oils. But while GF-5 lubricants will cost significantly more, consumers should still see an overall savings due to reduction of downtimes and decreased labor expenses, as well as other factors. Also, better oils not only last longer, but they perform better. A high-performance engine protectant will act like a truly great basketball player: not only will it do its job exceptionally well, but it will also help the rest of the team improve what it does. GF-5 oils will not only protect the engine from friction and heat, among other things, but it will also help the engine itself run the way it was designed to run, increasing both longevity and overall performance. Those same performance enhancing additives also serve to temper oil's impact on the environment by reducing both the quantity and severity of automobile emissions, as well as decreasing the production of used motor oil due to longer life cycles of the oil.

The only potential problem with GF-5, as with any new version or form of an existing product, is compliance and availability. Because it is easier and cheaper to continue with old products, manufacturers can be slow to produce and vendors can be slow to sell new products. That is not the case with the new performance standard, however. Many auto makers from Asia and North America will be switching to GF-5 as soon as it is officially introduced. Also ready for the new standard will be Orange Line Oils, among the western United States' biggest independent motor oil and lubricant suppliers. And not only is Orange Line ready now for GF-5, but it will continue ahead of the curve with rapid compliance to future standard updates. It seems that with all the benefits of GF-5, and none of the availability issues of a great new product, GF-5 is poised to dominate the motor oil and lubricant world.
