Youth ushers in many privileges and the most priceless one is clear hearing. It is just sad that for those who turn 30, they begin to feel their hearing abilities fade. By the time they turn 65, one out of six persons already suffer from immense loss of hearing. There has been an upsurge in the number of people with hearing problems and this alarming statistics reveal that 20 million Americans could have prevented this hearing loss problem.

But what are the reasons behind the one third growth of hearing problems? All these can be blamed on excessive noise. But unlike nerve deafness, noise damage is preventable and this is good to hear. Be able to determine the noise that can strip all or some of your hearing away from just the annoying sounds. More than just determining what kind of noise it is or how the distance to the racket, it is important to also consider the volume measured in decibels along with tracking the hours, days, months and years that a person is exposed to the noise.

The hearing of a person who gets exposed for a short while to very loud noises can be expected to return in just hours or even minutes if the exposure was just for a short time but he must remember exposure to noise even just for a while is unhealthy. Such a degree of permanent hearing loss have resulted from frequent or sustained exposure to loud noise, but varies on the length of exposure and volume. Decibels begin in the 0 level, the lowest audible to human beings while 180 only happens during a rocket launch. Noise at 180 decibels will cause inevitable permanent hearing loss if no ear protection was used. Two extreme categories define the noises we meet each day.

The rating in decibels of a quiet office or living room would be 40 decibels while a busy traffic or a noisy restaurant could reach around 70 decibels. Higher sounds will place you in bigger trouble.

For example, factory noise or an alarm clock two feet away usually rate 80 decibels. These sounds can be dangerous if you're exposed to them for more than eight hours. This certainly a great reward for not slamming for several times the button that snoozes your alarm.

In just 2 short hours, hearing damage strikes with exposure to noise from chain saws and blasting stereo headphones while under eight hours, hearing damage happens already thanks to truck traffic, shop tools and noisy lawn mowers. Noise that reaches the level of 120 decibels can reduce noise levels by 30 is laden with instantaneous harm, standing during a concert close to a speaker or in close proximity to sandblasting or a thundering thunderclap means immediate damage. Getting to close to the jet engine noise or to some gunshot types are not only painful to the ear but can also pose hearing loss threats be it partial or full.

The best bet? Protect your ears always and be conscious on noise always. Reduce whatever can be threatening to your hearing as much as possible. Maintain a moderate level on your stereo and television.

It is best to avoid excessively noisy instances which are far from controllable. Space out of shorten the time of exposure when hazardous noise levels are inevitable. It is wise to take hold and use an ear plug or muff, the best ear protectors. They're inexpensive and can reduce noise levels by 30 decibels.
