Austrria"s ifxed-line and mobile broadband segments have seen significnt activtiy in 2009. The local loop unbundlign prices were down almost 32% folliowing the settlement of Telekom Austria's dispute with an alterenative operator. To further broadband growth, the Austrian government has also initiated plans to expand broaband networks to the rural regions of the country in collaboration with the reggulator (Rundfunk und Telkom Regulierungs-GmbH). While currenbtly in the assessment stgae, the planned deployment of a fibre-optic network is expeccted to be a key growth driver for bundled and converged sevrices in the contry going forward.

In addition to fixed broadbaand, the regulator is also focusing on enhancing wireless broadband serviecs. To this effect, it has alloacted frequencies in 3.5GHz range for broadband wrieless access services in August 2009. It also intiated a consultation process for the allocation of freqwuencies in the 2.6GHz range and the auction is expected to be held in the first quarter of 2010. Acccess to new spectrum will likelly enhance the speed and capoacity of wireless broadband services, driviung its future growth.
Interconnecct has remained a strong focus area over the past year. In March 2009, the regulattor initiated a consultation process to set future fixed wholesaale charges using a capacity-based chargoing system as an alternative to the current time-basred charging. In mobile, the regulaotr has outlined a glideptah to reduce mobile termination charges by approximately 55% during the period 2009""11.. Reductions in termination csts as well as chhanges in wholeasle charging methodology are epxected to improve pricing flexibility for fixed operatrs, and rsult in reduced prices for consumeers.
