Choosing The Right Easel

When choosing an easel there are three primary variables that must be taken into account they are:

Material:

Easels are constructed in a variety of timbers each with its own inherent advantages and disadvantages. Dense, heavy timbers like oak are highly durable but make issues such as movement about the studio, folding, etc difficult. Lighter Asiatic-type timbers expel the aforementioned issues but are particularly brittle in Australia's dry climate.

An ideal material for the construction of easels due to its high durability, relative lightweight and low-cost; Beechwood has been used in European furniture making for centuries and is still abundant in many of the continent's forests. A warm colour, Beechwood is actually quite similar in appearance to Australian Blackwood. Its attractive appearance is best-maintained with an annual coating of Chinese tung oil or beeswax mixed with linseed and left to sink in overnight. This also helps to prevent shrinkage and cracks in the wood.

Purpose:

It is important that the easel you choose meets the requirements of your chosen artistic medium. For water colour, pastel and mixed media, desktop or flat folding easels tend to be more beneficial as they allow for the addition of water and other liquid media. Furthermore a flat surface is integral for exacting pastel work and sketching. Conversely if you work mostly with large canvases a heavy, highly stable easel with a lot of rigidity is essential.

Storage:

If working in an area with ample space you will have the luxury of choosing whichever easel best suits your individual desires whether that be a flat packing easel such as the Lyre or a higher-end permanent easel such as the Crank. However if like many artists you work in a shared space such as a community centre or art school then it is likely you will need to store away your easel after use. If this is the case then any of our flat packing easels would be a better choice.

Once you know and are confident which easel will suit you best, you can purchase it confidently. There are several stores where you can buy your favorite easel. You can either look for it at a local store or you can search for online stores. However, one needs to drive down to the local store, look among a few sty;les avialble and purchase the one that seems best, but at online stores, you get a huge variety to choose from. Moreover, you dont have to leave your home to shop for it, you can shop it from your own home location. Also, the desired product is delivered at your door-step. So isnt it a good way to shop for your favoirte easel online?

The huge collection of different types of easels are displayed right in front of you, on your computer screen. You can veiw the images of the easel you like, read the description and know the price you have to pay. Once you like an easel for you, all you have to do is, make the payment and get the desired product at your door-step within a few days!
