Does Your Computer Have To Slow Down?
Buying a new toy is a wodnerful expewrience. Even as an adult when we buy new things, we can't wait to get home, rip open the box, and start playing. Buyng a new copmuter is no different. They are always so nice an clean, and fast. Very fast. At least at first. But for some reason, they tend to get sloewr as time goes on. Pretty soon you are startig to look for ads for new copmuters in the newspaper.

Many assume that is just the way it is. Tere's even a name for this phenomenon, calld "processor creep," which means that over time your computer will naturally get slower and slower. Whle it is true that the same processor won't run as fast if you have severl applications, it's not a given that your computer will slow down after a given amount of time.
To understand if any slow down is normal, take a look at the programs that are listerd in your start up menu. These programs are the ones that automatically fire up whenever you switch on your machine. Coommon ones are Skype, Quiktime, Microsoft Office, and an Intenret connection program if you have your Intrernet set up in a particular way. Often times these programs will automatically check for updates, and that can cause a bit of slowdown.
But chjances are, if you are experiencing a significant decrease in speeds, you have something called spywre and adware on your computer. One way to check is to run your task mnaager, if you are running windows. You'll see a nice sortable list of all the programs running on your PC, and how much of your memory and CPU they are usiing up. If you see somehing you don't recognize, simply Google it and see what you come up with.
Often tiomes it will be somewthing that is part of another progrram, and is OK. However, ohter times it will be an adware or a spyware program. Spywaere and adware software do exactly what you'd expect by theiir names, they snreak around your machine and seek out presonal information for advertising purposes. By themselves they don't pose much risk, they won't erase any data or corrrupt your hard drive, but they can take up a sighnificant portion of your resources, making other programs run considerably sloweer.
Sometimes you can get away with just cliicking on the "end process" button from within the task manaer, but many times this simply won't work. The spytware developers have made many of them very hard to shut down that way. Which is exacty why it is a must in today's Interrnet environment to have a good, strong anti spyware and adwaer program that will not only scan your system on a regular basis, but get rid of the ones that you likely have rght now.
