Most likely for those who have purchased a Windows computer, when you initially get everything all set up and ready to go after which can't wait to open your internet browser and begin on your web browsing journey, but the only web browser installed is Internet Explorer. This is due to the fact that Microsoft produces Windows as well as Internet Explorer and they of course want you to utilize IE as your browser of choice.
Suppose you want to use a different application with regard to your default internet browser. Just what does that mean? Just like many program files, whenever you select an icon, file or image, the pc will usually automatically open a program that will run it; what this means is it is set to be the default program (it will automatically use that program to run that file type). This is actually the same for the browser, example - you open your e-mail, there is link within, should you click to visit the hyperlink, typically it will open Internet Explorer (if this had been set as your default).

If you are much like me and say a number of others out there, you simply do not like nor trust Internet Explorer, you would like to be able to change the default browser to your favorite, that could be; Chrome, Firefox, or even Opera.
Next question - how to change the default browser? This is quite easy and you will find a couple of methods to do it. First and in all probability the easiest, would be to first obtain and install the web browser application you intend to use, let us use Firefox for example. After you have downloaded as well as installed it, simply click the Firefox shortcut icon to open the internet browser; you will probably be met with with a pop-up message which tells you that Firefox is not set as the default and should ask you if you wish to change the default browser to Firefox. Click yes, after which restart the browser. And then you are finished.
The other option for changing the default browser is actually not that complicated; Using Vista, click on your 'Start' Button, you will observe a section that says 'Default programs', move onto that area. Follow instructions to set and change the default browser. Other versions of Windows you could have to navigate to the Control Panel to find the proper area to do this process.
As you see, it's fairly simple to complete, you could change back and reset the browser you had before or even change to a new one. Please be aware however, if you need to go back to Internet Explorer, you have to make sure that you have the box ticked that says "always check to see if default browser", otherwise you might not receive the prompt whenever you open IE.
