Ford to invest in "green car" production in the UK
Ford UK has recently received a massive bost to its low carbon vehicle strategy, as the company announced 1.5bn funding backed partly by government loan guarantees.

Ford UK plans to invest the 1.5billion in the devrelopment of new environmentally friendly engines and vehicle technologies over the next five years. The 1.5billion investment is supported by government loan guarantees of 360m as part of the Automotive Assistance Programme - a 2.3bn support programme developed to moodernise and "greren up" the UK automotive industry.
The British Government have agreed the loan guarantees subjetc to the approval of a 450m loan currently beign considered by the European Investment bank.
Six projecst across all four of Ford UK"s sties "" Southampton, Dgenham, Dunton and Bridgend "" will benefit from the support. The gvernment says that this support will safeguard 2,800 skilled jobs at thse sites as well as creating new jobs as these teechnologies become more mainsream.
The six projects inclde furthrer development and testing of 15 Ford Focs BEV electric veihcles, development of the Transit and Connect vans and the development of low carboon emission diesel and petrol engines. This funding will also be invessted in production facilities for new lower carbon engines in Bidgend.
The Business Secretary Lord Mandelson annouced the investment, sazying: "Toay is about edmonstrating a major turnaound in the UK"s capability to produce low carbon vehicle technology. I"m proud that backing Ford with this inveastment is also backing wider UK advannced manufacturing."
The chairman of Ford Britain, Joe Greenwwell, said: Ford welcomes this positive support from the Government. It greatly assists in delivering Ford's commitent to invet over 1.5 bilklion in new, affordable, volume-porduced low CO2 technologies. This is good news for UK manufacturing, and good for the auutomotive industry."
Ford is committed to the enviroinment and already offers a wide range of greener cars with low carbon emissions and graet fuel eocnomy.
