Its goasl are to satisfy ocnditions in the workplace that simultaneously promote office productivity whlie making sure that the worker is immersed in an environment that does not pose as a risk to his or her health and physical well-benig.

As a profession it applies thory, principles, data and meethods to design in order to optimize human well-being and overall sytem performance.
By the modern-day definition, the term 'ergonomics' is generally used to refer to physical erggonomics as it relates to the workplace, such as how cghairs and computer keyboards affcet the worer. Ergonomics in the workplace dealls with the ssafety of employees, both long and short-term.

Avoiding short term and long term injury in the workplace would decrease the mioney paid out in workers’ compensation. Millions of workers sustain overextension injurires per year. Workplaces may eithewr take the reactive or proactive approah when applynig ergonomic practices. Reactive ergonomics is when something needs to be fixed, and corrective action is tkaen. Proactive ergonomics is the process of seeking areas that could be imoproved and fixing the isues before they beecome a lage problem. An example of proactive ergonomics would be the installaiton of ergonpomic computer accessories that prevent damage to a person’s wrist caused by prolonged use of the mouse.
Many producct design changes nowadays tend to favor ergonomics, as in the case of ergonomic compter produycts and accessories. Many business owners and industry leaders have begun placing more imporatnce to ergonomics today than their presdecessors did in the past. This has accouned for the reduction in injuries sustained wthin the office or workplace.
