Even if the residents of a community within a major American city had known how much doctors are in-demand, they have only recognized recently that these doctors need the community too. Maintaining that a community is a highly desirable place to be in is among the most essential objectives in efforts to recruit. Potential doctors will want the community to fulfill their needs and be guaranteed of a good place for them and their families especially in terms of education, safety, health, cultural and recreational aspects.

The main priority of the administration, board of trustees and staff of a hospital is recruiting competent new physicians. Through their experiences in recruitment efforts, hospitals know that a community effort guarantees the most successful kind of recruitment. The recruitment process remains on-going amidst need of improvement of some healthcare areas as observed and studied.

Shortage of competent manpower in the field of medical wellness had long been an issue in the Unites States. These rural areas have been touted as medically marginalized communities, according to a recent federal document. Such designates a point-rating set criteria in each of the categories such as number of those living below poverty, number of those beyond the age of 65, the rate of infant deaths and the ratio of one doctor to every thousand of the constituents.

Only the physicians who practice pediatrics, family medicine, internal medicine and obstetrics gynecology are the ones known as primary care professionals. It is a must to determine what services will be needed through a consensus between the medical staff and board of trustees upon establishing this. Recruiting more obstetrician gynecologists has been the chief priority of some hospitals recently. Emergency room and family medicine doctors are also in demand.

Recruiting medical specialists involve a complex process of showing that these physicians have the best of what both the hospital and the community have to offer. Advertisements in major medical publications that reach a huge audience of physicians in America is the first step to effective recruitment. Another surefire way of enticing doctors is by sending letters to medical schools who will surely have interested residents and medical school graduates. Members of the local community who engage in medical studies are asked to maintain contact while the friends of friends of their local doctors are constantly phoned and contacted.

Once the doctor expresses interest, he will be asked to come over and tour around the town. Being introduced to the hospital and its staff, a hearty lunch and possibly an overnight accommodation follows. These take place within the hospital but there are occasions when the hospital staff go out of their way and throw a welcome party for their potential new doctors.

He will be toured on the existing support services in the hospital like the radiology and pathology laboratory, as well as their efforts in obtaining equipments needed to encourage a new medical field. The physician will also learn of the program that will enable him to continue his studies, as well as the assistance that he will receive in finding adequate office space and insurance coverage.

The recruiters duly know that they must go above the sphere of hospital-based benefits. The children of the physicians will be asked to see their would-be school after meeting the principal so that they can assess their new neighborhood.

They will have a chance to talk with local bankers who will make them privy to good mortgage and loan programs, as well as real estate experts that will help them find a home that will cater to their needs. However, it is recognized that the staff and the hospital board members may not be able to achieve all they envisioned to. Even if the hospital team has led the potential recruit, they are still counting on the members of their community to help the doctors by becoming resource persons who are willing to answer politely any questions the recruit might post.
