Electronic Medical Records (EMR) software systems are quickly replacing traditional paper records for a variety of reasons. In this article we will discuss 3 reasons why a vast majority of healthcare facilities are switching to EMR software, and how it can directly benefit your organization for you to join the movement!
Did you know that often times medical records are inaccurate, which can lead to a myriad of legal problems? I am sure that if you are in a management position at a healthcare facility, you are aware of this problem. The reason records are often inaccurate is due to errors made when making annotations for a particular patient. With EMR errors are drastically reduced. EMR take a large portion of the human error out of the equation, thus enabling your healthcare organization to keep more accurate patient records.
More accurate records are just one benefit associated with EMR, as these records also increase organizational efficiency. Traditionally medical files have been stored on paper, and as a result the files can easily become lost, damaged, or stolen. If the file can be found, it often takes valuable time that could be better allocated to actively treating patients. EMR keeps all of your patient records organized, and when everything is in one place, your organization will perform at maximum efficiency.
Lastly, EMR can help doctors collaborate more effectively. Patients very rarely see one doctor anymore, but instead opt for a variety of specialists about a particular problem. This poses a problem when doctors have to transfer paper files, but with EMR the files are stored securely in electronic format, and are available for a doctor right when he or she needs to see them.
