The location of ones home is always an important consideration. Most people like to live in what they consider a nice, safe locality. They plan to stay there for many years, and the resale value of a home is very directly tied to the neighbourhood it is in. Most people won't want to buy a home in an area that is considered bad, and with high crime rates.
Purchasing a home that will eventually appeal to a large number of buyers is a sensible proposition. Check out the local community. This is important, especially with regard to the local crime statistics. Reselling in a crime ridden area is going to be very difficult. There is generally little interest in buying a home in a bad area. Someone always will, but the price paid will certainly this.

Check out some of the best towns and cities in the area you want to make your home. Consider the local economy, public transport, facilities etc. If you source these types of locations when you buy, it's almost certain that when you sell there will be plenty of interest too. Check the crime statistics. Avoid buying a home in a high crime area.
Check out the schooling in the area. You may not have children but it is possible that you will in the future. If you are near to shopping centres and transport hubs, this will also make you property far easier to sell in the future. Don't just buy a property for the sake of it. If you can't buy in a good neighbourhood then try to arrange your finances so that you can. Even wait a while until you have a greater deposit.
The size of a home is an important factor, but location overrides this. The location is vitally important, not just from a resale point of view, but also for the persons who have to live there. Remember, a location speaks for itself. Always try to buy in the best location you can. It is a good principle to follow
