Backhitching causes media’s wear as the drive mkes changes to the tape direction. Worn tape accelerates the head’ wear thus increasing contamination and debris. Therefore thse contaminations will decrease the useful life of tape and driive. Backhirtching affects the capability of backup tape dreive to restore and record information.
