IPad WiFi Problems

While some consumers have opted to wait for version two before purchasing an iPad, many have already bought the latest offering from Apple. Like any new piece of technology, the iPad has experienced several problems, most notably with the ability of the unit to connect to the Internet via WiFi. IPad WiFi problems have been reported by a wide number of users. Luckily, in many cases, several easy, common sense measures have proven effective for solving these issues.

1. The On-Off Solution: almost any technician will tell you that when an electronic unit is not operating correctly the first step should be to turn off the unit and then turn it back on. This rule holds true for the iPad as well. Any consumer experiencing intermittent iPad WiFi problems should first try shutting the iPad down and restarting it. This simple, common sense measure often solves the problem.
2. Power Settings: From laptops to tablets, electronic junkies know the key to long battery life is energy saving power settings. These savings, along with the iPad auto brightness feature, do help conserve battery life. They may also affect the ability of the unit to connect. The research on this one is mostly anecdotal, but some users report a stronger signal when the screen brightness is set to full.

3. DHCP: the iPad has a known problem regarding DHCO leases. The unit tries to store an address without renewing its lease. Consumers working with a DHCP network should address this known problem by learning to renew leases.
4. Direction Counts: many users report that the orientation of the iPad can affect the strength of their WiFi signal. Users should learn to orient their iPad wider than taller in order to maximize their signals.
5. Encryption Codes: There are several different types of encryption protocols and bands that allow wireless products to connect. IPad users should carefully note what encryption protocols, iPad favors WPA2, and what bands, iPad doesn’t ‘like’ Quos, work best and disable all others.

It is also a good idea to ensure that each unit is running on the latest iPad update. This may be the single greatest way to solve iPad WiFi problems. Users are encouraged to regularly update the iPad to stay current with the latest updates and software versions.

Some consumers are turning to a combination of WiFi and 3G to ensure their ability to connect to the Internet. Many early users who purchased units with only WiFi connectivity are now realizing that the extra cost was well worth the additional ability to connect.

Apple’s iPad is likely the first in a long line of tablet PCs, designed to make computing and communications even more portable than they already are. Knowing the issues of the first release, like questionable WiFi connectivity, can help consumers decide which iPad to purchase. Implementing several common sense steps may solve the problem entirely. It is likely that later versions of the iPad will address known iPad WiFi problems.
