London is ready for 2012 Olympics

In 2008, on the closing ceremony of Beijing Olympics, London’s 8 minutes was short but impressive enough which shows us a city full of culture, history and innovation. The red bus which is a symbol of the city and a lot of umbrellas to imply that London is always raining are quite cute as well. When the mayor of London took over the flag of Olympics, the game in London is on.

There are people who doubt that “how London should attempt to follow the glitz and grandeur of the Beijing Olympics: don't even try.” Or “we certainly can't afford anything as fancy as this”. The spectacular performance shown by Chinese people indeed gave the world a feeling of awe-inspiring, however, it do not necessarily mean that London can not do at least the same well. In fact, as long as London can present its own unique identity to the world, that’s already enough!

London, as the capital city of Britain, has once been called a ‘world in one city’ because of the power of the British Empire in the 19th century. Nowadays, it is not as shining as before but the remaining glamour and innovation still can easily attract the attention of the whole world. London Eye, London Bridge, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and Westminster Cathedral make you fall in love with this city at the first sight.

Recently, as the host of the Olympics games for the third time, the city launches the two-wheel revolution (bicycling) to deal with the traffic congestion. On the other hand, the Heathrow airport, hotels, car rental companies are all ready for the mega-sport event.

Heathrow Airport

As UK’s largest and London’s No.1 airport, Heathrow is located 22 km away from central London. There are circa 90 airlines flying through Heathrow to more than 180 destinations all over the world. With 5 terminals, two main runways and a cross wind runway, Heathrow airport serves roughly 68 million passengers each which makes it the fifth busiest airport in the world.

In recent years, due to the threat from terrorism, the security status has kept being updated which also will take more time. Therefore, in order not to miss your flight, please keep the following information in mind.

· Long-haul flights - check in 3 hours prior to departure

· European flights - check in 2 hours prior to departure

· Domestic flights - check in 90 minutes prior to departure

Hotel

There are a large number of hotels surrounding the airport. Picking up one hotel which suits for you best could be a bewildering experience. Here are some hotels with great prices and comfortable environment we recommend: Arora International Hotel, Baylis House Hotel, Comfort Hotel Heathrow, Crowne Plaza Hotel, Hilton Hotel Heathrow, Holiday Inn Ariel, Ibis Hotel Heathrow, Park Inn Hotel, and Radisson Plaza Hotel.

Car Rental

If you prefer to hire a car to get to the airport, there are a number of regional and national car hiring suppliers who will offer you a reasonable price as well. Here are several most popular companies: Avis, National, Sixt, Thrifty, Hertz, 1car1 Car Hire Manchester, and Super Car Hire Ltd.
