Weddings can be incredibly expensive to plan once you get through the costs of the clothing, banquet hall, DJ, the reception as a whole, favors, and everything else that factors in. Another aspect of the reception that needs to be planned out is the food. Your guests are going to want to eat and you need to be able to provide food for everyone without breaking the bank. It is very possible to hire a caterer without totally draining your budget.
- Know that prices can be on a large spectrum from incredibly cheap to incredibly expensive depending on which caterer you are getting a quote from. The prices that are found on the menu depend on a few different factors such as the ingredients that are being used, how the food is served, and the type of food that is being served.

- Don't be afraid to ask questions about the prices and why they happen to be in the range that they are. Two different caterers may offer the same food but one offers a significantly different price than the other. Sometimes their prices can be explained and it is up to you to determine whether the additional charge is worth it. One example of this is that one caterer may only use organic foods which are quite a bit more expensive than their counter part. You can determine if the price is worth it.
- Consider going to a restaurant that has enough staff to be able to cater a wedding because many times you can get a large discount since they don't need to hire additional people or other necessary things for the catering.
- Make sure that the caterer is aware that you are on a budget. They may decide that your business is worth the investment and you may get a decent discount as long as you use them to provide service for the wedding. You may also get better luck finding a decently priced caterer if you decide to get married during one of the slower months when the wedding business isn't exactly booming and caterers aren't completely booked up already.
- When it comes to alcohol you should most likely supply your own because it is more cost effective. Caterers mark their prices up in order to supply the alcohol whether it's champagne or wine. One of the best and most competitive ways to purchase enough alcohol for your wedding is to make a stop by one of the stores that is a warehouse and specializes in selling alcohol for events such as weddings.
- Hard liquor has the potential to be rather pricey so don't provide these free of charge to the guests. The champagne and wine can be unlimited and completely free to guests but if you must have liquor at the wedding you may want to place it next to the other alcohol and charge a small fee in order for people to purchase these. However, make sure that bringing your own alcohol is allowable by the reception hall.
