MLM Prospecting - Does Mentoring for Free Deliver on it's Promise?

Mentoring for Free is a downline building system based on attraction marketing. It is an attraction marketing system, in that the members offer a free ebook, "Success in 10 Steps", and coaching/training calls in exchange for your contact information. We’ve been contacted by several members and opted-in to their system, downloaded and read the ebook, but not participated in any conference calls. Some participants report that Mentoring for Free's conference calls can at times become more about one company in particular vs. just generic training . Also, when contacted by "coaches" in the system, we've encountered a reluctance and unwillingness to be open about what company they represent .
Maybe that isn't a problem, but what about the system itself? For two reasons, the approach used by Mentoring for Free is less than ideal, at least for our needs. For one, this is not an affiliate system, or funded proposal. A surprise awaits the reader on page 71 of the ebook when he discovers that the system carries a $19.95 monthly cost. So Mentoring for "Free" has introduced another upfront cost for the new network marketing associate, that can't be "covered" any way other than through network marketing earnings.

Also, Mentoring for Free isn’t customizable to allow branding “You, Inc.” vs. Mentoring for Free and it’s author. It is also interesting to note that Michael Dlouhy’s mug shot is front and center on the ebook, and he is very prominently listed as its author. This defeats the purpose of attraction marketing in the first place and merely is branding Mentoring for Free and its creator. There is also an issue of who controls the database of prospects that you have introduced the system. What happens when you quit paying your $19.95 monthly fee?
We can't argue with the laudible aim to train anyone in network marketing as a way of "giving back," and the training on working with different personality types is very good. Some of the material, however, seems to some to be “reverse-engineered” to lead prospects to the inevitable conclusion that there is one far superior company to all the rest in network marketing. Is the entire system just a ruse to recruit for one person's personal downline? Our main caution here would be using this system as a generic downline builder for any company other than that promoted by the Mentoring for Free founder. That is unless you’re prepared to strongly defend the advantages of your own company, should it not meet all of the suggested Mentoring for Free criteria of a “five pillar company.”
Mentoring for Free is an ingenious downline builder which leverages the concept of first delivering value before expecting to earn sales commissions. It is, however somewhat transparent in it’s motivation and branding, at the same time. Mentoring for Free is also not customizable for individual "branding."
