Ibiza, officially named the Catalan Eivissa, is an island in the Mediterranean Sea. Of the 4 largest islands on the Balearic Islands, an autonomous community of Spain, Ibiza is the third largest but the most beautiful one.
8 million years ago, Ibiza came into being just as other European mountains did arising from the ocean. It was part of Spain’s mainland, but due to the rise of the water level, it was gradually separated into an isolated island.

Later, the island has become a famous trade port but because of this, it was conquered by Phoenicians. They discovered the settlement Sa Caleta, the remaining of which is till worth visiting. The Phoenicians used this island as a middle supply station to trade lead, silver and minerals.
Then the island was taken over by Carthaginians later and most importantly the Carthaginians found Ibiza Town which is a city in Ibiza now and an important port. At that time, saltmaking had become Ibliz’s most important trade. The salt is called ‘White Gold’ and therefore the city got the name of ‘White Island’.
Then the coming of the Roman brought more civilization, like how to grow grapes, corn and olives. Bridges and roads were also be constructed at this time.
Later, the Vandals and Byzantines, the Moors and the Vikings all came and went. It was the Arabs who conquered the island for nearly 5 centuries.
Life and let live
People on the island seem to be born with hedonism and their motto is that ‘life and let live’.
Ibiza, in fact, is a place famous for its extravagant nightlife. Every summer, DJs and leading producers come to Ibiza to perform in different clubs and pubs, which forms Ibiza’s legendary. Well-known nightclubs are Privilege, Eden, Es Paradís, Amnesia, Space, Pacha, Underground, Gala Night and DC10. Two luxury ones are Pacha and El Divino which just located in Ibiza Town.
World Heritage Site
Due to the variety of the spices and unique culture, most part of the island has been designated as ld Heritage Site by UNESCO.
In terms of the biological variety, it is surprised that there is no deadly dangerous animals on the island such as snakes or spiders. Instead, there are numerous kinds of birds living on the island or just stay here temporarily. In addition, you can come across wall lizards very often on the island, even at home. The
pure-bred dog on the island is named the Podenco Ibicenco.
Tourism
Tourism, in recent decades, has become the pillar industry of the city. It has brought a large amount of wealth to the island, but at the same time the pollution and other environment problems. Over dependency on tourism has caused negative impact on water supplies and animals inhabited on the island.
