What Happens When It Rains In Atlanta

Last year, continuous rain fell down on Atlanta which destroyed millions of properties. Ten died while around $500 millions plus cost of properties were damaged. Flood went beyond the water levels of dams that's why it was the worst catastrophe in Atlanta. In fact, the amount of rain was said to be equivalent to 500 years of floods.

It was a constant 4-day rain fall, from September 15 until the 19th. It was on the last day that heavy rain started to pick up . Remote areas around Atlanta were reported to have 5-inch rainfall that went on continuously for 13 hours. The roads were already flooded that's why people were warned not to drive around. Many roads had to close during that time which made transporation difficult. Because of this, many schools closed. Water leves in the Chattahoochee River raised up to 20% which is reported to be the second highest in its history. Because of this, Peachtree-Dunwoody Road bridge was destroyed. The second largest sewage treatment in Southeastern United States, the R.M. Clayton Sewage Treatment Plant located near the river, had its water level rising by 4 feet as the water levels on the river continued to rise. Aside from the R.M. Clayton Plant, Kellogg Company was also forced to close down due to the rising floods.

Because of the flooding in many areas of Atlanta, the government of Georgia declared a request for disaster. By twenty-fourth of September, President Barack Obama approved the declaration being filed for all the 17 counties of Georgia as requested by its presiding governor. This disaster only proves the value of a disaster preparedness committee which can act decisively during these kinds of disaster. Doing this can reduce the damage. But what's best for Atlanta right now is to continue recover from the disaster it has encountered.
