Demo Jazz Award in Cassino

Cassino Jazz is part of Atina Jazz, an important festival that has taken place in Atina (a small village in the region Latium) since 1986. For the second consecutive year, the city of Cassino will host a competition of Italian, young talents, the Demo Jazz Award, and the event will certainly catch the attention of a great number of jazz lovers.

The Demo Jazz Award is only one part of the program of Cassino Jazz, which also includes concerts that are definitely not to miss, like the performances of Rossana Casale, Mario Romano and Enrico Rava with Stefano Bollani: a great chance to listen to the music of famous artists and young musicians, who are likely to be the stars of the future. The Demo Jazz Award is organised in collaboration with Radio 1 Rai, an important Italian radio channel, which broadcasts the program “Demo”, with Michael Pergolani and Renato Marengo. The program has dealt with discovering new talents for five years, encouraging listeners to send their demos (hence the name of the program), which must be self-produced and made of original music and lyrics. As many as 15,000 CDs have been sent to the program, and about 1,500 musicians have had the possibility to have their music played on Radio 1. The festival, which derives its name from the program, has been conceived along its lines to discover and give voice to hidden, but certainly up-and-coming talents. From the 28th to the 31st of July the city of Cassino will have the honor to present the talents of the future, which will challenge each other in the beautiful setting of Villa Comunale, attracting many jazz lovers in Cassino.

The event will kick off on the 28th of July, with the first semi-final. The second semi-final will take place on the 29th, while the third will be held on the 30th. The finalists will challenge each other on the 31st of July. Competitors will arrive from all over Italy, to make themselves conspicuous during an event that is definitely one of the most important jazz festivals in Italy, especially for emerging bands, who seldom have the chance to make themselves known by a large audience. But in Cassino also young talents, and not only famous musicians, will be on the spotlight and heard not only by those who have a passion for music and decide to attend the festival, but also by the many tourists who are not jazz lovers, and who visit Cassino every year for other reasons, perhaps to visit the famous Abbey of Montecassino or the many other monuments of the city, or to enjoy its wonderful landscapes. A good chance to play their music in front of people who are not used to listen to this music genre. The location of the event itself makes it easier for music to fill the whole city: Villa Comunale, indeed, is in the city centre, and from this strategic position the notes that will be played on the stage of the Demo Jazz Award will fill the whole city, turning Cassino into the capital city of Jazz, at least for a few days.
