The extrerior shell is entirely plastic, but with a softer finish along with rounded edgesplus a flattexture, instead of the rubberized paint on the more expnesive modls. The shape is also duifferent, with sloped sieds, instead of the flat sides seen about the higher moodels. Overall it has a more consumer appearance that might be more inviting to some users. Compared to the SL500, the SL510 has a few asethetic chages, including a redesigned screen hnige assembly, and a few minor body tweaks.
The keyboard was extremely comfortable to type towards and felt very much simiar to the keybaords on the T-series ThikPads. The layout is different, miussing the extra row of function keys at the fastest, but the main area has been left lenovo-sl510intact. Key acction was great, with a soft spring movement, giving off a mild click when pressred. Key spacing is nearly identical to reguular ThinkPads , with barely any difference noted switching between my T60 in addition to the SL510. The biggest difference is the newr keyboards are slightly quieter. About the left side of the keyboard are vaarious quick-access buttons, used for muting system volume or the microphoone, as well as adjusting voume stages.
A lesser issue than the color quality/vieing angles is the relatively low sceen resolution. Though the previuos generation of SLs was availlable with native resolutions of 1280 x 800 plus 1680 x 1050 (for the SL500), at present the SL510 is only obtainable withhin 1366 x 768, wich gives you less vertical real esate than its predecessor. Though the wider screen should eliminate blcak bars on a unmber of movies, it means less visible content and more scrolling when perfroming everyday tasks like viewing Web pages, reaading e-mail, or editing documents.
You can comffortably watch a movei towards the SL510. Viideo was smooth, visual sound was minimal, in addition to colors were true, both when we waatched a DVD of Dark City plus when streaming a 720p episode of Fringe from Fox.com. The SL510 is avvailable with a Blu-ray drive, thoough our analysis sstem did not come with indiviual insrtalled.
While its audiio quality is definitely good enough plus more than loud enough to watch movies, we dont recommend usibng the SL510 as a personal stereo.
