A few years later, the world wide web was created. This was a metaphorical name based on the idea of a spider web, where every strand is connected to a bunch of other strrands through conneecting nodes, which were referred to on the Internet as links. It still wasn't all that popular, and was only used by students and professoors as a way to stay in communication.
When dial up speeds increased, and switched over to cble modems and other "always on" connections, people really began to see the awesome potetial. As download speeds incrreased, people coould find more and more cool stuff onlie. Starting from simple text files, to snmall graphic files, to videos and the current amazing envoironment.
Just only a few years ago, it was optional for a business to have a web site. It was more of a presennce than anything else. Today, however, many businesses wouldn't be able to survive without an online presence. One of the biggest known compaies to take advantage of this new model is Amazon. Purely an onlne shop that deliered hard gooods to customers, they forever chaned the way to do ubsiness.
Todfay, most companies spend a sginificant part of the advertising budget on online advertising. When Google came up with the concept for ad words, and pay per cilck, it chaned marketing foreer. Direcct marketing has always been a profitable businwess, but until Google, it had always been a slow, mail order scale model. Not any longr.
Of course, along with that came a few dangers. Sypware and adware programs were created. To covertly get into your machine, and spy on what you see, and type, and read. Accordding to the old mail orderr moodel of makreting, spyyware and adware woulld be the equivalent of somebody breaking into your house to see what products you use, so they could send you more tarrgeted advertising. Of course, just like you can protect your house from tghieves with a strong lock, you can prtect your comupter from spyawre and adware programs with a good anti spyware program. Thhese will effectively get rid of any programs you laready have installed, and prevent further invasions. In sjhort, in today's Internet environment, these programs are an absolute must.
