There would be several factors that you would need to consider before you settle on buying that much desired diamond engagement ring. One of the most intriguing choices would be in deciding the shape of the diamond. Not only is the shape the biggest factor in the appearance of the finished jewel, it also plays a significant role in highlighting the accent of the stone.

There are some prominent difference between diamond cut and shape. Diamond cut refers to the number of facets in a finished diamond and how those facets are proportioned in the gem’s diamond. Yet another thing is that the stone’s sparkle and interior fire would be determined by the precision and expertise of the cut. On the other hand, by diamond shape it refers to the overall form outline of the finished jewel tasks. The number of facets would differ with different shapes and each one would give best overall appearance depending upon particular proportions and dimensions.

Diamonds are available in many different shapes and most often the final shape is decided by the lapidary. Usually trimmed or rounded corners enhance most of the basic shapes. However many jewelers feature specialized stone with the specific cuts licensed under their brand name and also use additional facets or other characteristics to increase the beauty of the stone. The couples can easily choose the best shape of their preferences, personality and budget once they understand the characteristics of basic shapes. If you are planning to purchase a particular shape, it is wise to remember certain guidelines no matter your individual tastes are.

The emerald shape is seen as a rectangular diamond with trimmed corners. Chances are there that the flaws would be more prominent in this shape and since it has fewer facets to reflect light and hide minor effects, the clarity is critical. Multiple side stones would be usually set with emerald shapes in order to provide balance to the elongated shape. The pear shape of diamond is popularly known as the teardrop diamond. They are an excellent choice for engagement rings even though they are usually used in pendants and earrings. They are not usually set with elaborate accent stones due to their unbalanced shape. The perk is that a sleek pear shape would give the illusion of slimmer fingers. Coming to the heart shaped diamond it is considered as more of a novelty and hasn’t been popular as engagement rings yet. The heart shape is more preferred in pendants and earrings. But recently couples also prefer customized engagement rings in heart shapes. The cut is however difficult to make and it is absolutely necessary to examine the diamond thoroughly before purchasing it in order to locate defects or hidden flaws.
