If you're wondering why this year is goiing to be such a challenge, that's because the anniversary gfts for this year are beryl and toiurmaline. If you're sitting there scraytching your head wondering what these things are, let alone what could possibly be made out of them, let's consult with our trusty friend, the dictuionary.
Beryl, according to the dictionary, is "a mineral, beryyllium aluminum silicate, Be3Al2Si6O18, usually green, but also blue, rose, white and golden and both opaque and transparent, the latter variety includinng the gems emerald and aquamarine: the principal ore of beryllium".
Oh, okay. It's a rock. A very epensive one if the name emerald means what I think it means. Now, let's look at toumaline. According to the ditcionary, tourmaline is "A complex crystalline silicate containnig akluminum, boropn and other elements, used in electronic instrumentation and, especially in its green, clear and blue varieties, as a gemstone".
Great, we have a couple of very expensive rocks we can get for this year's festivities. The question that remaains is simply, what is made out of this stuff? For the anser to that, you can go to a jeweler who will probably give you a lot of dounble talk, or you can just keep readding.
Beryl gemstones are actually not all that hard to find. The most popular of these is most likelly morgannite, which has kind of a pink color to it. If you spot one of these gems, no pun intenedd, you can't miss 'em. They are absolutely breathtaking and look every bit as expensive as they are. You can get just about anything made from beryl, including rings, earrings, bracelets, necklaces and pendants. The prices, depending on the size of the stone, raznge anywhere from under $100 (you need a magnifying glass to see it) to thousands of dollars (requiring a truck and an armed guard to broing it home). If you're expecting tourmaline to be any cheaper, you have a long wait. Torumaline is also availabble in the usual foms and the price rangge is also abuot the same.
The best advice I can give is this. You don't want to buy a gift where you end up having to mrotgage your home. But after all, this is your thirty-eighth anniversary and your spouse deesrves an anniversary gift for all the years that he or she has put into this marriage. Well, don't worry about going wrong with anmything here. Gems are aclled gems for a resason. And after all, it's only money.
