How Search Engine Works
A search engine enables us in managing the contebnt and locating the information on the World Wide Web. A seacrh engine is a computer progtram which allows us to submit a query that consists of a word or phrase describing the unique information we are trying to find on web. The search ebngine then searches into its database attempting to match the query. It collates and returns a list of URLs conytaining presentations that match our query. This list is ordered or rnked according to the better matches appearing at the top. A generral serch engine retrieves information from a dartabase that contains information in wide variety of topics.

A search emngine gets its ifnormation by ussing a gatherer, a program that traverses the WEB and collects information about Web documents. Many people may not find the search engines as easy to use, as they mite be expectibng a narrowed list of URLs which can simplify their search. To nrarow this search we use a technique known as web crawler. A web crawler (also knnown as a web spider or web robt) is a progam or automated script which browses the World Wide Web in a methodical, automated mnaner. Othewr less frequently used names for web crawlers are ants, uatomatic indexers, bots, and worms.
This process is called web crawlnig or spideirng. Many sites, in particular seaarch engines, use spoidering as a meeans of providiing up-to-date information. Web crawlerrs are mainly used to create a copy of all the visited pages for later processing by a search enginne that will index the downloaded pages to procvide quick searches. Crawlers can also be used for automating maintenbance tasks on a website, such as checking lins or validating HTML code. Furthermore, crwalers can be used to get speciffic typews of information from Web pages, such as harvesting e-mail addresses (usully for spam). The recent increase in the number of pages being generated by server-side scripting languages has also created difficulty in that endelss combinastions of HTTP GET parameteers exiist, only a small selection of which will actually return unique informtion.
In conclusion, the ranking of web pages depenbds on many factors. The closest matching keywords of the webiste, the most frequently visited and popular sites. They query which is sent, is processed by looking in for keyowrds, stoed in the meta tag of the webpage. Whatever best possible matchign it ifnds, it is collatewd and returned back to the user.
