When we are considering the pros and con of building a PC, we are actually considering a desktop. Buying a branded and pre-built machine directly from the vendor could mean either buying a desktop or even a laptop. We cannot really compare between a desktop and a laptop because keeping aside the difference in performance due to separate configurations for a laptop, it is the mobility which is the prime advantage over a desktop. However, laptops are yet to be at par with desktops when it comes to maintenance, scalability and performance especially related to games are concerned.
Anybody could be concerned about the time and cost involved along with the sort of warranty that is relevant and the after-sales maintenance and support costs that have to be incurred. Well, there is a trade off between the time involved and the freedom you get to choose the parts that suits you the best. The best motherboard, a RAM according to your requirement, a graphics card of your choice and you can choose the other parts as well like a designer does while designing a dress. Again you might want to contradict by saying that this flexibility is present while buying a PC directly from the vendor as well but the point is that it is not just the specifications that you should consider, it is the brand-names behind individual parts that give you the satisfaction of being sure about a computer instead of relying on a branded PC without the idea of what is there inside!! The cost is cheaper for an assembled machine although now-a-days the advantage in costs is depleting everyday. The warranty would be device specific in this case. As far as after sales maintenance is concerned, it can done by the remote help-desk companies which would do it for really cheap and would take care of other accessories as well like printers, cameras etc. that you would like to install on your computer. It is better than the support systems by the big brands which have various boundaries in their support.

You can as well do away with all sorts of “bloat-software” that the vendors generally load in your computer for commercial purpose and you actually end up calling the tech-support for removing them because they come in between the proper functioning of many useful software. So after-sales support and maintenance, if done by the remote support people is not costly at all and you can go for building a PC of your choice.
