Information That Teaches You About Blasting Equipment

Blasting equipment is needed when you use the blasting approach as a finishing for surfaces of almost any type. You can use the blasting method to finish cars, other equipment, media, houses, and buildings. It is used in glass bead finishing, stainless steel, aluminum polishing, paint, and rust removal.

There are many types of blasting approaches. There is wet blasting, dry ice blasting, and sandblasting. In wet blasting, there are abrasives and non-abrasive medias such as glass, ceramic beads, and plastics with water.

Wet blasting is done with a high volume pump in a closed loop stainless steel cabinet. The slurry is discharged at the part surface at a controlled and regulated speed by nozzles or other means. Unlike sandblasting, wet blasting equipment uses a high volume of water in the slurry cushioning the media.

Wet blasting uses round media such as glass bead, ceramic, and metal shot. Its applications include wet peening an aircraft component ‘N scale’, for applications in aircraft component ‘N scale’ wet peen, wet peening, on aviation engine, landing gear, and automotive engine re-building.

Angular grit media like aluminum oxide, crushed glass and steel grit blasting are used for aggressiveness. New machined components in the aircraft, marine, automotive, and semi-conductor segments can be deburred.

In fine angular aluminum oxide, blasting can deep clean the pores of surfaces found in the aircraft industry. In plastic angular media, the wet blasting equipment is used to remove flash from plastic and paint stripping.

In dry ice blasting, the compressor uses compressed air to accelerate solid carbon dioxide dry ice pellets to strip industrial equipment surfaces of residues like glue, ink, food, paint, rubber, dirt, grease, mold, release, and other contaminants.

Unlike sandblasting, dry ice blasting is non-abrasive. When dry pellets hit a surface, the dry ice pellets sublimate immediately. Dry ice blasting cleans by using kinetic energy, thermal-shock effect or thermal kinetic effect.

Using accelerated ice pellets, the kinetic energy is transferred as the pellets hit the surface during the ice blasting process. The dry ice pellets sublimates upon impact and is softer than other cleaning media like sand, grit or beads.

Thermal shock can happen when cold dry ice pellets strike a much warmer and contaminated surface during ice blasting. The extremely cold temperature of the dry ice weakens the bond between the surfaces being cleaned.

The thermal kinetic effect combines the impact of rapid heat transfer and sublimation. When the dry ice pellets hit the contaminate surface, the vapors expands rapidly to cause micro-explosions, taking off dirt and grime.

Sandblasting removes fine bits of materials and dirt at high-speed using silica sand. It is the first method used in blasting to prepare a surface for the application of paint or sealant. It is also used to remove paint from stucco and other textured structures.

The blasting equipment using silica is effective at rejuvenating concrete to bring back the original look of the brick, pebbles, and other rock designs. Blasting is used by large, medium and small industries to clean surfaces. You will need different blasting supplies and equipment depending on the approach.
