Each company regardless of its size, large choice or fame, does business with a hope of fulfilling in its consumers, three essential virtues: Trust, Transparency, and the third being Quality, for these are the three qualities that will make the company survive, grow and flourish in the marketing world.

What is Trust? At childbirth, you first learn to trust your mother. She represents the only familiar thing in the world. You can predict her emotions of love and care towards you. After that, as you grow up, you become familiar with other people and the world around you. Familiarity means you can predict their behavior and tendencies to conditions. As you continue to grow in life, your familiarity with the world around you goes on increasing. In your eyes, the predictability of behavior of people, animals and things, goes on increasing. You know that the sun rises in the morning and sets in the evening. It is predictable behavior of the sun. Would you be confident in life if you couldn’t predict whether the sun would rise tomorrow morning? The answer is an emphatic “No”. You would be filled with fear if the sun’s behavior were to become unpredictable. It is this predictability of behavior that you call trust. Trust is your belief or faith that someone or something will behave in a predictable manner with you. So, as we all grow up, we trust only people we are familiar with because their actions are predictable to us. We are all afraid of the unknown and unfamiliar

If someone behaves in an unfamiliar or unpredictable manner, we react with fear. In other words, if someone’s behavior with me is unpredictable, it would trigger fear in me, because, like all others, I too fear the unknown and unfamiliar. Trust is a primordial feeling in man. When you do business with your customer, he places implicit trust in you. He believes you will always behave in a predictable manner with him, showing prompt service with a smile. He believes you will never cheat or betray him. He believes that you will be a component of his growth and success in the world. All these beliefs are his trust in you. If your behavior becomes unpredictable, you become what is unfamiliar in his world. In other words, he loses his trust in you, and it is equivalent to his going down several rungs on the ladder of confidence, growth, success and happiness in life, because he has come so far believing that you are an essential spoke in his wheel of survival, growth and success. So now we have understood the paramount importance of trust. In your business, you must take care at all times to maintain the confidence and trust imposed in you by your customers. If your customer loses trust in you, he will always be in fear of you and certainly, he won’t ever do business with you again.

Transparency is a part of trust. Transparency means you have nothing to hide from anyone. It means you openly and fearlessly deal with others. If you are transparent in business, your customer understands that you are open and have nothing to hide from him. If you have nothing to hide from your customer, you become familiar to him. If you become familiar to him, it once again means your behavior is predictable to him. This is once again nothing but trust. So transparency boils down to above the board or open behavior. The moment you stop being transparent in your dealings with your customer, it once again becomes a breach of trust and we have already understood what breach of trust can result in. When your sales agent visits a customer, it is therefore essential that he maintain the trust imposed by the customer in him. The sales agent being your interface with the customer, therefore represents your company/business. Why do sales agents become best sales agents and the best product sales agent?
