A TSH Trickster-How Wilson Syndrome Escapes Detection

If you suffer from symptoms of a hypothyroidism but have tested negative on aTSH test, you might be suffering from a condition that was discovered by Dr. Dennis Wilson. Dr. Wilson discovered the condition in the early 1900’s and then developed a treatment after working with over 5,000 patients. During his study of the condition, he found that his patients suffered from low body temperature and many of the same symptoms that victims of hypothyroidism suffer from. The only difference was the negative TSH test.

There is a very good reason for the negative TSH test. The thyroid system functions in three critical steps. A standard TSH test only measures the first step: production of T4 hormone by the thyroid gland. The last two steps are poorly understood and impossible to test; therefore, the syndrome doesn’t show up on standard tests, and many patients are left wondering how to cope with Wilson syndrome, the most prevalent and hard to diagnose of the low body temperature causes.

Far too many physicians are oblivious to the existence of Wilson syndrome, and their patients suffer as a result. In response, doctors that are enlightened about the syndrome have joined together to find ways to treat the condition. Their research has led to two effective treatments: the administration of the active thyroid hormone T3 (triiodothyronine) or a special blend of herbs and minerals taken by the patient. Both treatments work independently of one another. Some people respond well to the administration of T3, while others respond more to the botanical approach. Almost everyone responds to one of the treatments.

In time more people may become aware of this serious condition that negatively impacts the life of its sufferers so much. For now, the answer is to alert as many people as possible to the existence of Wilson’s so that they can review their symptoms and see if they have a consistent pattern of those symptoms. If they do, there are effective treatments available to sufferers that will get them back to being healthy and happy.
