ATVs (all terrain vehicles) are fun. In fact, I can’t think of a better way to spend my Saturday afternoons than racing some ATVs with my friends. But, along with all that fun (and believe me, it’s a lot) comes some danger. After all, these are powerful vehicles that can be, at times, difficult to control, especially if you’re not too familiar with them. But, with the proper precautions, ATV racing can be a very safe and exhilarating hobby. Today, I’m going to go over a few tips on how to stay safe while enjoying your ATV.
One of the best ways to protect yourself is to have the right ATV riding apparel. ATV helmets, goggles, boots, gloves, knew and elbow pads are the standard for gear, and every person riding an ATV should be wearing all of them. The gear needs to fit properly though; there’s no point in wearing a helmet that’s two sizes too big.

ATV racing gear is also important if you plan on racing within your friends. Since racing is usually more intense that regular riding (you’re going faster, taking sharper turns and trying to avoid hitting the person(s) racing with you), the apparel is key to reducing injuries if you do crash. Accidents happen, especially when you’re pushing the envelope.
Both the gear and apparel are important, and can be found at any ATV dealership or accessory shop, and they usually have some good discount dirt bike parts. But the gear and apparel alone will not ensure you’re safety; you need to know how to properly handle the ATV you’re riding, and the only way to truly do this is to take a few lessons.
Lesions can teach you how to land properly from a jump, how to properly take a sharp corner, and generally how to properly handle the ATV. There’s no better way to know what you’re doing than to have someone else who knows what they’re doing show you.
