How to choose the tyres for your car

When you choose a car you take various factors into considerations, from what you want to use the car for to the amount of people that it has to hold, without forgetting the aesthetic factor. When you choose a new car you definitely prefer a nice bodywork, a model that can meet your taste and desires, but a car does not need to be only nice and comfortable, it also needs to be safe. For this reason the choice of tyres is very important. You can find a wide range of tyres, you only need to go to your regular tyre dealer to ask more information about and choose the best tyres for your car and needs.

There are many types of tyres, and depending on how and how much you use your car, you can choose the more appropriate tyres for you. For example, if your car does not have a spare tyre, you would better choose Run Flat, RFT or Pax tyres. These types of tyres, which are sold by all the main tyre manufacturers (Run Flats are sold by Pirelli, RFT by Bridgestone and Pax by Michelin), are ideal in case of puncture, as they avoid the damaging of the rim and assure a sufficient range to reach the nearest service station. Certainly you have to keep in mind that these tyres are not indestructible, and after getting a puncture you should not exceed 80 km/h and travel for more than 200 km. Think about the easiness of not having to call (and pay) a tow truck or changing a tyre along the motorway, perhaps in the night or under the rain. To have anti-puncture tyres mounted in your car, you only need to ask a tyre specialist.

Another factor you need to take into consideration, when you choose the tyres for your car, is the season. There are tyres that can be used throughout the year, but in some climatic zones it is better to use specific tyres. As far as tyres for all seasons is concerned, we can say that they are good on any type of soil. However, although they have good performances in any season, they do not reach the excellent levels of winter or summer tyres. Summer tyres, which can be used all year long, if the climatic conditions of the place where you live are not too extreme and allow you to do that, and above all if tyres are well-kept and have not been used too much, assure an excellent grip and high performances on dry soil. Winter tyres are perfect when you travel on frozen or covered with snow streets. Thus they are necessary if you travel in zones where winter is hard, and they are usually to be mounted in November and replaced at the end of March. In case of snow, winter tyres are very useful if they are not used-up, otherwise they lose their effectiveness on both wet and dry soil. Keep also in mind that winter tyres can change the car behavior and its road grip on dry soil.
