How To Make Mailing Services Effective

By: Brad Kartel

Once you get home, you check your mailbox to see if a letter or a package has been sent to you. You go through the different letters, pamphlets, proposals, and notices – all sorts of material that mailing services have sent. You discard the obviously promotional material for a house, a car or things you do not need or do not have the cash to pay for , basically; checks for possible discounts or notices for events or mall sales; and then reads through what you think deserves your attention: personal letters, bills, and checks, among others.

How does one letter or a notice can stand out from the rest and make the reader notice?

Business owners need to consider how to make a mail effective. These days, not everyone has the time to pore over all the advertisements or promotional materials that they receive. Even if mailing services send all types of letters and notices, they can still be classified as junk which people throw, where else, but on the trash can. Not everyone has the patience to go read the information contained for they know that what it wants is to encourage buying a certain product or availing of special services. Not everyone has the tolerance to read long, boring, and unattractive business proposals.

Think a little outside the box. If you want direct mailing to be effective, think like a customer.

- Attractiveness sells. Human beings are very visual people. We are attracted to colors – especially positive ones like yellow, green, or orange. We take notice when we are assaulted with colors. Our perceptions are influenced, and there is a psychology behind color. Do you wonder why a lot of food chains use red? That is because it is the most vivid and attractive color that catches attention in a sea of patterns or in most cases, in a row of restaurants or food stalls.

- Design is critical. We keep something when we are taken by its design. We love oddly shaped envelopes, colorful book covers, and unique poster designs. We love anything that has a cool design even if its meaning is not apparent or the message is quite ordinary. We hardly let go of beautiful designs. Visit a home, and you will find posters on bedrooms, stickers on refrigerators, cars, and guitar cases; paper stock used bookmarks or as notebook covers.

- Message is key. In order to promote your product or service, deliver it in a catchy way. Highlight what your target clients or customers can get. Use beautiful font types to highlight these benefits. Make them bold. Increase their font size. Let people read the advantages in bold, colorful type faces. You do not have to provide them with too much information. Make it simple. A short text is enough to be memorable.

Treat your direct mailing problem as a big art project. Organize your ideas, brainstorm with other people, and implement it using this simple rule: attractiveness, design, and message are what matters.
