Norms vs. Time – Cross Dressing
Under most cultural fashion trends, clothing pieces for women are mainly composed of skirts, dresses and other loose flowing pieces of wardrobe. On the other hand, clothing pieces for men mostly consist of tights, trousers, pants and other form of clothing that has a partition for the legs. However, due to the society’s dynamism and desire to adapt to the continuously changing lifestyle of the people, fashion began to evolve in order to fit in to the market’s desire and demand to be clothed. Hence, the issue on cross dressing was born.

Cross dressing sometimes is not only done out of fashion.
In the modern day setting, it is now acceptable for women to wear trousers and pants. Wearing such at an appropriate style is even a preferred way of clothing for women during business transactions and other events that require formality and appropriateness. In the old times, women wearing pieces of men’s clothing could get prosecuted, due to charges related to violation of the laws of the church that women should know their places in the society, out of men’s businesses.
At present, various working gowns have been developed in order to assure safety and quality of the products being developed by the workers. These working gowns are compelled to be worn by all employees, men and women alike. During the old times, the only times when a man dresses in loose clothing is when 1) it’s time for his sleep; or 2) when a man is playing a part of a woman in theater. Though this olden principle applies to most countries worldwide, this exempts the Greeks and some Arab countries to which togas and loose form of clothing is their default fashion units for men.
In these reasons, it can also now be said that cross dressing does not automatically equate a person’s gender preference. At this point of time, the society has already learned to expand its understanding with regards to people’s clothing, that cross dressing sometimes is required not because of fashion but in order for the people to better accommodate the tasks and routines that needs to be accomplished everyday.
