Best Friend’s Home – Dog Kennels

Dogs are the most common house pet in most parts of the world. And since the beginning of time, several evidences have been found, proving that dogs are common companions of man not only in his hunting activities, but also in his daily life. Several equipments and instruments have been dug up in locations, indicating that dogs have been used in delivering, carrying loads and other tasks assisting man. For an aid that provides all that help aside from companionship, these animals are important to be properly provided when it comes to their shelters.

Dog house, also known as Kennel in English, refer to any structure created to shelter dogs. Kennels may either be a part of the house or a separate structure from the main home, depending on the owner’s purpose of keeping a dog. Dogs that are solely being kept to guard houses and facilities are often structured near the entrance, while dogs kept for companionship, especially eye dogs usually don’t have houses, for they live within the very house of their masters and are allowed to roam around until they are called.

In buying or constructing a kennel, the first thing to be considered is the size of the dog. How big should a kennel be for a Pomeranian? A Beagle? A Labrador? An Afghan Hound? Dog houses should provide ample space for the dogs to curl to sleep if the dog house is only intended for sleeping. However, if the kennel is intended to be of the dog’s permanent habitat, there should be enough space for the dog to move, stand half way up on two legs, or should at least enable the dog to stand up on all fours with enough room for the head.

Aside from the size of the dog, it is also important to know the weather orientation of its breed. Shepherds and other hairy breeds are used of cold weathers, therefore must be kept in cool areas, or be constantly supplied with cool water or ice. On the other hand, short-haired dogs such as Chihuahuas and Whiphets must be kept in normal temperature and be provided with enough blankets, since they don’t have natural insulation facilities to keep their bodies warm.
