When printing posters, paper stock is a critical element. If you have a tight budget, you need to consider all the factors involved: cost, durability, size, and impact of prints, among others. If you are a beginner, though, who is not well versed with the intricacies of poster painting, it can get confusing. So to help you out in preparation for poster printing, read the following information on paper as well as alternative materials available.

In choosing what paper stock to use for poster printing, first, here is a question: are you going to mass produce posters or just going to create for a few people? If you are going to mass produce, you would prefer the cheapest poster paper. You may need to print a maximum number of prints. For this, you need to purchase standard paper that is uncoated. Its thickness should be 20#. This is the cheapest paper stock available, but still offers quality when mass producing posters. You would not have a hard time printing on these papers.

There’s a caveat, though, with this kind of paper stock. These do not last long. The reason behind is that they do not have extra coatings or final finishes. These can break easily or would not last long outdoors. If you want to extend their longevity, just store or place them in places that can offer protection against water, air, or wind, for example. If you want to give it all to your marketing campaign, you can use the best paper stock there is for poster production.

Find the best stocks online or you can go ask printing companies for paper samples. Most probably, they would provide you with high gloss papers which has coatings that have sheen when you preen at them. These are also resistant to smudge, dirt or even scratches. No physical damage, albeit simple can wear your poster. This kind of paper stock is expensive, so you may need quite an investment. However, you will be guaranteed that your design will not be worn and torn easily. It can take quite a time before your poster will be damaged by the effects of the weather. The design will not easily fade, too.

You can also opt for large posters which are very durable. However, they are hard to put up. These are meant to be set up for a long time. The recommended paper stocks for large posters are in 24# or 28#. There are still thicker paper stocks available, but the aforementioned are the most ideal. Those that are thicker are of course, tougher. These thick paper stocks also have special coatings which make them resistant to moisture as well as dirt.

Another option for poster printing is to use a plastic mesh, commonly known as tarpaulin. These are long lasting, too. If you want to have durable and resistant material for poster printing, you can go for tarpaulin. Online, you can find various resources on poster printing, including paper types that are ideal for this.
